10,000+ Teachers Lead the Change in Nagaland: School Safety Policy Compliance Course Marks a Major Milestone

Kohima, Nagaland— In a landmark achievement for education and disaster preparedness, the Nagaland Disaster Management School Safety Policy Compliance Course has officially crossed 10,000+ teacher registrations. This milestone reflects not just numbers, but the collective commitment of Nagaland’s educators to safeguard children and build safer schools across the state.

Launched on December 1, 2023 by Honourable Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, the SSP Compliance Course is a joint initiative of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the Department of School Education (DoSE), and NagaEd. Since its inception, the program has steadily gained momentum, uniting government and private school teachers under one shared vision: ensuring that no school is left unprepared in the face of disaster.

Celebrating Teachers: The Heart of Preparedness

Crossing the 10,000+ mark is not merely a statistic, it represents thousands of teachers who have taken the step to learn, prepare, and lead.

From high volume participation of teachers especially in remote villages, to principals, their efforts speak volumes about leadership in action. These efforts highlight how teachers are the true frontline champions of resilience.

Speaking on the milestone, Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer, NSDMA, said:
“Preparedness is the difference between panic and protection. Reaching 10,000 teacher registrations is a proud moment for Nagaland, because it shows that our schools are moving beyond fear and into readiness. Every trained teacher represents a safer future for our children.”

Aonok Aier, Head of Projects & Learning Excellence at NagaEd, added:
“Crossing 10,000+ registrations shows what is possible when teachers, policymakers, and communities unite. This is an essential first step in disaster preparedness at the policy awareness level. More essential steps should follow in order to sustain the momentum of preparedness in the State. Every teacher trained is another school closer to safety.”

Keeping the Momentum High

While this milestone is cause for celebration, the journey is ongoing. With Phase 2 of the SSP Compliance Course running until October 31st, 2025, educators are encouraged to register and effectively complete certification before the deadline.

The vision is clear: to embed safety and preparedness into the very fabric of Nagaland’s education system.

A State That Leads by Example

Nagaland is setting a powerful precedent for the rest of India. By investing in teacher training, recognising schools through the School Safety Excellence Awards, and driving large-scale awareness, the state is showing that school safety is not just an obligation, it is a culture.

10,000+ teachers have taken the first step. The question now is, will every school follow?

The last date for registration and completion is October 31, 2025.
