KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in collaboration with the Department of School Education (DoSE) and NagaEd, celebrated the progress of Phase 2 of the School Safety Policy (SSP) Compliance Course during the State-level Teachers’ Day 2025 programme. The event also featured the presentation of the “School Safety Excellence Awards” to schools for outstanding participation in the initiative.

Launched on December 1, 2023, by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the SSP Compliance Course has become a key initiative in strengthening disaster resilience across schools in Nagaland. Following the success of Phase 1, Phase 2 has so far recorded 8,875 teacher registrations and 3,714 certifications from both government and private school educators.

The initiative has also seen wide outreach, generating more than 32 lakh advertisement views and engaging over 7 lakh people through awareness campaigns.

The “School Safety Excellence Awards” were presented to four schools-Government Middle School Dobagaon, Dimapur; Government Middle School Naga New Model Sumi, Dimapur; St Joseph’s School, Tuensang Town and The Vineyard, Kohima.

“This course represents one of the first essential steps in building a culture of disaster preparedness across our schools… today’s acknowledgement and awards reaffirm the collective progress we are making,” said Aonok Aier, Head of Projects and Learning Excellence at NagaEd.

The programme underlined the state’s vision of embedding safety, preparedness and resilience in the education system. Phase 2 of the SSP Compliance Course will conclude on October 31, and all teachers and school leaders have been encouraged to register and complete the course before the deadline.
