Nagaland strengthens school safety through digital training for teachers

Dimapur: Nagaland govt, in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the school education department, and education tech company NagaEd, has launched Phase 2 of the Nagaland Disaster Management School Safety Policy (NDMSSP) Compliance Course.

The course is mandatory, self-paced digital training programme designed to equip teachers in govt and private schools with essential disaster preparedness and school safety skills.

Originally launched on Dec 1, 2023 by CM Neiphiu Rio, the programme saw 7,567 teacher registrations in its first phase, with 3193 educators already certified — indicating strong early participation.

In Phase 2, the focus shifts to ensuring course completion among registered participation and expanding outreach to unregistered teachers. The digital format — featuring interactive videos, quizzes, and real-life case studies — enables educators to complete the course with disrupting regular teaching duties, while fostering a culture of safety and resilience.

“Ensuring school safety is not just a mandate, it is a moral responsibility. Our collective effort in digitalising safety training ensures that no teacher, child, or school is left behind, regardless of location.” said Johnny Ruangmei, joint CEO of NSDMA.

NagaEd co-founder Kevisato Sanyu said the initiative reaffirmed Nagaland’s commitment to school safety and demonstrated the power of digital learning in reaching educators in even the most remote areas.

NagaEd is a local education technology company that develops innovative digital solutions to enhance teaching and learning.
