Kohima, Nagaland: Mission SOAR Nagaland and the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) conducted a one-day workshop on the practical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 44 officers and ministerial staff of the Board at the NBSE office in Kohima on 11 August 2026, with sessions delivered by resource persons from Shikha Academy, Mumbai.
The day opened with a question on the screen: if every day suddenly had 25 hours, what would you do with the extra one? For the staff in the room — many attending their first training on AI — the question was not abstract. Every branch of the Board loses hours each week to the same repetitive work: drafting formal letters, checking documents against checklists, rephrasing official replies.
The workshop’s answer was direct: learn to use AI well, and win that hour back.
Delivering the opening remarks, Shri. Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, NCS, Secretary and Chairperson, NBSE, encouraged the officers to make the best use of the opportunity to learn, explore, and harness the benefits of AI to improve efficiency and productivity in their work.
The sessions began with the basics — what AI is, what it is not, and the common misconceptions around it — before moving to how generative AI can support day-to-day responsibilities: planning, data analysis, feedback, brainstorming, and automation. Participants then mapped these capabilities to their own tasks and practised writing effective prompts on real work, from summarising policy documents to drafting public notices.
In the final session, participants learned to build simple AI assistants — tools set up once that then handle a recurring task the same way every time, without fresh instructions. The day concluded with a discussion on the safe use of AI and possibilities for future, more targeted sessions.
“We were already using AI, but this workshop showed us how to use it properly. Learning to write sharper prompts, and even using AI to help build those prompts, will make a real difference to the quality of answers we get. The session on AI assistants was equally practical; every branch loses time to repetitive work, and we left with real ideas to cut that down and free up time for what matters.”
— Smti. Rüchünino Ziephrü, Assistant Academic Officer, NBSE
“This was my first AI workshop, and it was motivational. I came in with only a basic understanding of AI, but the discussions and hands-on sessions gave me a much clearer picture of how it can be applied. I feel far more confident about using AI in my work going forward.”
— Shri. Kekhrievilie Nakhro, Cashier, NBSE
The workshop concluded with a discussion on the safe and responsible use of AI. Participants considered the importance of using AI thoughtfully and recognising its limitations when applying it to professional work.
The discussions also highlighted the need for continued learning as AI tools evolve. Participants expressed interest in further, more targeted sessions that could focus on the specific needs and workflows of different branches of the Board.
The workshop marks an early step in exploring how AI can become a practical support tool within education administration — not as a replacement for professional judgement, but as a technology that can help officers and staff work more efficiently and focus greater attention on higher-value responsibilities.
