Nagaland, 9 June 2023 – The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the Department of School Education (DSE) and NagaEd have joined forces to revolutionise school safety in Nagaland. With a shared vision of ensuring the well-being of students and staff, NSDMA, DSE and NagaEd are embarking on a groundbreaking project to digitise the School Safety Policy, enhancing its accessibility, understanding, and compliance. The agreement was signed on 9 June 2023, with development work beginning immediately. The School Safety Compliance Module for teachers is scheduled to launch in December of this year.

School safety is a vital aspect of education, encompassing various challenges such as natural disasters, accidents, child abuse, bullying, violence, and infectious diseases. Recognising the importance of addressing these issues comprehensively, NSDMA has developed a comprehensive School Safety Policy that outlines guidelines and procedures for schools across Nagaland.

However, implementing the policy effectively across all schools across the state has its constraints due to resource requirements and remote locations. Challenges such as distributing and updating policy documents, complexity in understanding the requirements, inconsistent enforcement, and monitoring compliance have been persistent obstacles.

To overcome these challenges, NSDMA & DSE have partnered with NagaEd, renowned for its expertise in digital education and successful implementation of digitisation projects. NagaEd will spearhead the digitisation process, creating an interactive digital module that makes the policy easily accessible and understandable for schools and teachers.

Kevisato Sanyu, Founder of NagaEd, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to work with NSDMA & DSE to ensure the safety of schools and students in Nagaland. By digitising the School Safety Policy, we can increase its reach and effectiveness, creating a safer environment for all stakeholders. Our aim is to empower schools with the necessary knowledge and tools to comply with the policy requirements and enhance the overall safety culture.”

The digital module developed by NagaEd will align with best practice learning design principles, incorporating interactive content and videos to enhance engagement and understanding. Through this user-friendly platform, schools will gain comprehensive knowledge about the policy, increasing the likelihood of compliance and fostering a culture of safety.

In addition to designing and developing the digital module, NagaEd will provide technical support for the implementation and rollout. They will offer training to NSDMA and Department of School Education (DSE) personnel, ensuring they are proficient in using the platform. NagaEd’s dedicated team will work closely with NSDMA and DSE to gather feedback from schools, making necessary adjustments to optimise the platform’s effectiveness and ensure compliance.

The collaboration between NSDMA, DSE and NagaEd marks a significant milestone in advancing school safety in Nagaland. By leveraging digital technology, NSDMA aims to create a seamless and efficient process for schools to access and understand the policy. Moreover, the platform’s monitoring capabilities will enable NSDMA to ensure compliance and take proactive measures where necessary.

“We believe this partnership will revolutionise the way school safety is implemented and monitored in Nagaland,” said Johnny Ruangmei, Joint CEO of NSDMA. “By digitising the School Safety Policy, we are empowering schools with the tools they need to create safe learning environments. This initiative aligns with our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in the state.”

The NSDMA, DSE and NagaEd collaboration represents a significant step forward in school safety measures. By utilising digital innovation, the project aims to bring about positive and lasting change, making Nagaland’s schools safer and more secure.

The project targets the digitisation and implementation of the School Safety Policy across the state and certifying 5,000 teachers across Nagaland. This ambitious goal reflects the commitment of NSDMA, DSE and NagaEd to reach every corner of the state and ensure that no school is left behind.
